MantiCon Comes to BayCon 2023
For immediate release:
San Mateo CA, November 1, 2022 — BayCon, the SF Bay Area’s Premier Science Fiction and Fantasy convention will welcome MantiCon over the weekend of June 30 – July 3, 2023. BayCon’s theme next year is “A Night at the Space Opera.”
July 4th weekend will mark the first MantiCon to be held in the San Francisco Bay Area. BayCon, founded in 1982, is celebrating the 38th convention in its long history of fan-run events.
MantiCon is a science fiction and fantasy literature convention hosted by members of The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN). MantiCon will have a dedicated programming track at BayCon 2023, open to all attendees, along with some new surprises. Past MantiCons have featured exciting programming, including Fandom as a Force for Good, Dueling in Space, Boarding Actions, How to Be a Leader in Fandom, Historical Military Maneuvers, and Character & World Building.
The MantiCon social experience and nightlife will also include its famous 21+ space, the Wardroom. Attendees will be able to “roll pods” with a Missile Pod shot, meet members of TRMN from Spacers to Space Lords, and learn more about the Honorverse. TRMN has many branches, but one family!
Newcomers to the MantiCon experience and seasoned MantiCon veterans alike are welcome to join BayCon 2023 and MantiCon for a truly awesome experience next July. Always with Honor!
Full weekend memberships to BayCon 2023 are $65 until December 1st, 2022. VIP memberships, which include a junket-style weekend, priority seating at events, and intimate experiences with Guests of Honor are also available.

What is the current price for a membership to BayCon 2023?
$65 for a full weekend membership. The membership price increases to $75 on 12/1/2022.
Can I reserve a room at the convention hotel?

What is included in the VIP membership tier?
- An intimate, group dining experience with the BayCon 2023 Guests of Honor.

Accompanying the Masquerade is the traditional BayCon 2022 Variety Show. This year’s theme is “THIS IS ME“. Come share your talent or whatever you’ve got on stage! BayCon 2022 Schedule is Live
At long last, the Programming Ninjas have come out of hiding to give us a full look at the awesome weekend of programming they have planned. And it’s a doozy!

BayCon 2022 Welcomes Featured Guest Tananarive Due
BayCon 2022: The Sun Rises is happy to share our latest Featured Guest: Tananarive Due!
TANANARIVE DUE (tah-nah-nah-REEVE doo) is an award-winning author who teaches Black Horror and Afrofuturism at UCLA. She is an executive producer on Shudder’s groundbreaking documentary Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror. She and her husband/collaborator Steven Barnes wrote “A Small Town” for Season 2 of “The Twilight Zone” on CBS All Access/Paramount+. A leading voice in black speculative fiction for more than 20 years, Due has won an American Book Award, an NAACP Image Award, and a British Fantasy Award, and her writing has been included in best-of-the-year anthologies. Her books include Ghost Summer: Stories, My Soul to Keep, and The Good House. She and her late mother, civil rights activist Patricia Stephens Due, co-authored Freedom in the Family: a Mother-Daughter Memoir of the Fight for Civil Rights. She is married to author Steven Barnes, with whom she collaborates on screenplays. They live with their son, Jason, and two cats.
