Our theme this year is Dystopia/Utopia. What better way to convey that theme then with James S. A. Corey’s masterpiece novel series, The Expanse? We’re honored to host both halves of Corey, Daniel Abraham as Writer Guest of Honor, and Ty Franck as Toastmaster. They have released six of the nine projected novels thus far (as well as ancillary short stories and novellas). Their debut novel Leviathan Wakes received both Hugo and Locus nominations, and became an instant New York Times bestseller. The series as a whole was recently nominated for the 2017 Hugo Awards as Best Series. The book series spawned a hit TV show on the SyFy network titled The Expanse, which is currently in its second season. Last December they released the sixth novel of the series, Babylon’s Ashes. This year gives our members a unique opportunity to meet and converse with the masterminds behind BOTH a hit Dystopian science fiction novel series as well as a hit current TV show. Please take the opportunity to purchase your membership this weekend. We’ve got an outstanding line up of guests and events planned for you this year; we hope you’ll join us.

We are excited about our Guests of Honor this year!
We are thrilled to have such an amazing group of Guests of Honor for BayCon 2016. We have have been looking at our theme and really embracing it in full force.
We have Author Guest of Honor David Gerrold. He wrote possibly the most well know Star Trek Episode ever, The Trouble with Tribbles, but he also has a long list of novels and other works that celebrate space and science fiction. (THE SLEESTAKS ARE ALL HIS FAULT!) He has won both a Hugo award and a Nebula award for his autobiographical story The Martian Child. He was last year’s Hugo Awards Emcee as well as one of the Guests of Honor at the 73rd World Con. We are thrilled to finally get him to be a Guest of Honor at BayCon.
We didn’t stop there though as we were able to get Artist Guest of Honor Chris Butler F.R.A.S. Chris’s unique art and presentation style reflects his diverse experience; he has been the director of a children’s science museum, a tour guide on the original Queen Mary, a technical illustrator, a representative for a telescope manufacturer, an amateur astronomer, and a financial analyst on the space shuttle program for Rockwell International. We are excited to see what he is currently working on and what he will bring to the BayCon 2016 Art Show.
As you may know, BayCon likes to honor our community far and wide by having a Fan Guest of Honor. We honor people who contribute to the many vast parts of our Fen experiences as well as share their love of Science Fiction and Fantasy. This time we have the costumer, con runner, and Tusken Raider, Anastasia Hunter.
The theme this year may sound familiar to the Toastmasters this year as they wrote a song pretty darn close to it. The Library Bards will be joining us as Toastmasters as well as singing some of their favorite songs for us.
And to round out this line up is our Special Language Guest of Honor Lawrence Schoen. He holds a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology, has been nominated for the Campbell, Hugo, and Nebula awards, is a world authority on the Klingon language and is on his current book tour!
We hope this whets your appetite for BayCon 2016.
