Announcing Gallowclass Writers Workshop

Want to take your writing to the next level? The Bay Area’s longest running science fiction fan convention is hosting a writing workshop with writer, storyteller, and educator M. Todd Gallowglas. In this workshop, students will go through an immersive, four-day writing experience that will will begin on Friday with what the old chestnut, “Write what you know,” really means. On Saturday, students will learn about various types of story structure. Sunday will explore which perspective is the best for a story or or scene. Finally, Monday will take writers twisting the emotional knife… again and again and again…

BayCon at Loscon 11/29/19

It’s Thanksgiving again, so we’re joining our friends down south at Loscon 46, November 29 – December 1st, 2019 at the Marriott Los Angeles Airport Hotel.

We’ll be there promoting our convention and our theme, The Future is Now. Come by Room 1745, our party suite, on Friday and Saturday night to learn all about what we’re doing up in the SF Bay Area, and what we have planned. We’ll be handing out promos and talking up our amazing guests. Hope to see you all there!

BayCon Hotel Update

We have an important announcement regarding making reservations at the Marriott.

We are aware that some of you may have trouble booking a room when the reservation includes shoulder nights (specifically Thursday May 21 and Monday May 25). Please go ahead and make your room reservation at the convention rate for whichever nights you can get. After you receive a confirmation from the hotel, please send an email to hotel@baycon.org with your name, confirmation #, and desired check-in/check-out dates.

We will work with the hotel to fix this for you, and once your reservation is fixed you will receive an email from us regarding the correction. Thank you for your patience. We want to sell the hotel room reservation just as much as you want to make it!

Charity 2020: Larkin Street

BayCon is extremely pleased to announce our charity for 2020! We are partnering with Larkin Street Youth Services, a nonprofit in San Francisco empowering young people to move beyond homelessness.

From their website:

Founded in 1984, they’ve helped over 75,000 young adults in San Francisco by providing a continuum of healthcare, housing, employment, and education services.

Our vision is not to interrupt homelessness for young people, but rather, to end it permanently.

To do this, we provide comprehensive services that meet young peoples’ needs, while encouraging them to access our services when and how they feel comfortable. This helps our young people take charge of their own lives, developing long-lasting self-sufficiency while building trust in themselves and our staff.

Our work is internationally recognized as setting a high standard for innovative and effective care for young people experiencing homelessness.

BayCon 2020: The Future is Now has a TOASTMASTER!

Dan has been in science fiction fandom for over a decade, the last two as President of the world’s oldest Star Trek Fan Club, STARFLEET. He is excited to join us in hosting our other Guests of Honor next year. Fun fact: Dan looks almost exactly like the president of The Royal Manticoran Navy.
