Schedule | Iron Game-Designer Challenge

Schedule

Friday 8:00pm — Cribbage Tournament
A game of gentlemen and scoundrels dating back to the reign of England's Charles the First, Cribbage is easy to learn but difficult to truly master. Do you have what it takes to skunk your opponents and claim victory? Come and find out!
Friday 10:00pm — Carabande
Carabande is a game of dexterity and physics. Up to 8 players race their caroms around the track by flicking, tapping, or bumping them around corners, through bottle necks, over jumps, and past their fellow racers. Several heats will be run so that any who wish to try their hand at this fast paced and simple to learn game can get in on the fun.
Saturday 10:00am — Iron Game Design Competition (Unveiling)
The secret ingredient will be revealed, and teams will have 24 hours in which to create their own unique game.
Saturday 12:00noon — Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse Mega-Battle
An epic battle, spread across three very different tables. Make up a 1500 point list and come join in the mayhem! (Some armies and legendary forces will be available for loan to those who do not have their own.)
Saturday 2:00pm — Loony Labs Zendo Tournament
Once again, it's time to prove that you are more budah than your neighbor, that your serenity is beyond compare, and your humility is second to none! Our favorite Loony Labs guy Eric will be back again this year to host the annual salute to the beauty and mystery of colored plastic pyramids, and their special place in the universe.
Saturday 6:00pm — Gloom
Choose one of the bizarre families of Gloom, heap misery upon them, and condemn them to a lamentable fate! Gloom is a very macabre and extremely tongue-in-cheek game in the style of an Edward Gorey primer, in which players try to make their own family as miserable as possible through strange events and then kill them off, while at the same time raising the spirits (sometimes literally) of their opponents' families. Stop by and enjoy this fun and funny card game.
Saturday 8:00pm — Betrayal at House on the Hill
For those who prefer their horror in a somewhat more serious vein, We present Betrayal at House on the Hill. In this create-it-yourself board game, the players are exploring a haunted mansion and dealing with its creepy contents when suddenly one of the players betrays the group! The betrayal can be anything from unmasking himself as a knife-wielding psychopath, to being in league with all manner of malevolent beings. Can the group of innocent explorers defeat the traitor, or at least survive long enough to escape the mansion? Come play and find out!
Sunday 10am — Iron Game Design Competition (Submissions due and playtest begins)
The 24 hours will be up, and the play-testing by our panel of judges will begin.
Sunday 12noon — Warhammer 40k Kill Team
Some missions are too delicate for tanks. Some missions require more subtlety than a batallion of troops can muster. Some missions require plausible deniability. These missions call for a Kill Team. Many of the Warhammer 40k players out there will remember with some fondness the sub-game known as Kill Team. One of our intrepid staff has modified and updated the Kill Team rules for the new edition of 40k and is ready to unleash them upon the universe.
Sunday 2pm — Fluxx Tournament
Deceptively easy at first, the game's rules changes on a turn by turn basis. Fun for players of all ages and skill levels.
Sunday 4pm — Iron Game Design Competition (Winner Announcement)
The votes will be tallied and the winning team will be announced.
Sunday 4pm — Texas Hold-em Tournament
Gaming's long time second in command Rey will be hosting a tournament of Texas hold-em, the most popular poker varriant in North America and Europe today.
Sunday 6pm — Infernal Contraption
Infernal Contraption pits goblin mechanics against each other in a race to assemble often-backfiring, nigh-uncontrollable magical machines while sabbotaging their opponents. Through the strategic placement of arcane components like arcantric funnels, chthonic grinders, and entropic processors, these gobbers risk life and limb to overcome the competition with the ultimate Infernal Contraption.
Sunday 8pm — More Carabande
A second round of Carabande. Once again, several heats will be run so that any who wish to try their hand at this fast paced and simple to learn game can get in on the fun.
Sunday 10pm — Rock Band
Guitars, Drums, Vocals – LET THERE BE ROCK! In this popular video game players try their hand at the cooperative experience of being a rock band.
Monday 2am — Insomniac Trivia Challenge
One of the time-honored academic traditions of Pyrocumulon is pushing one's mental limits under extreme physical duress, such as sleep deprivation or inebriation. Come on down to the Gaming Room on Monday morning at 2 a.m., after you've sampled nearly all that the city has to offer, and test your brain against other die-hard revelers in Insomniac Trivia! Can you remember the full specification of a proper boomstick after a tour of the party floor and/or two hours of sleep over the course of three days? Then this is the place for you!
Monday 12noon — Blood Bowl Tournament
Fantasy Football should have nothing to do with real people, places, or events. Fantasy Football should be Orcs, Dwarves, Ogres, and Elves! The head of the Gaming department thinks so, and the good people at Games Workshop agree. Can your team of bloodthirsty maniacs move the ball down the field to score the elusive touchdown, or will they find themselves at the mercy of the dirty goblin that managed to sneak a chainsaw on to the field?

Iron Game-Designer Challenge

Grab a team of up to 4 people and sign up to participate in the Iron Game-Designer Challenge. Teams will have 24 hours to literally make up a game. Board games, card games, or role-playing games are all acceptable, but there is a twist: There will be a theme ingredient that must be included as a relatively main component of your game. After the 24 hours have elapsed, a panel of judges will play your game, and judge it on the following criteria: Originality, Enjoyability, Ease of Play, and Use of Theme Ingredient.

Friday 4:00pm — Sign ups open
Saturday 10:00am — Theme Ingredient revealed and competition starts
Sunday 10:00am — Games are due, and test-play begins
Sunday 4:00pm — Winners will be announced
