BayCon 2007 BayCon's New Hotel

Hotel Info

BayCon has a new hotel for its 25th anniversary!

San Mateo Marriott
1770 South Amphlett Blvd., San Mateo

The BayCon Hotel Division is prepared for months of planning, organizing, and magic. Are you? The hotel is taking reservations! It's always a good idea to call early, make that reservation, and book yourself into the room you wanted, instead of something too far from the BattleDome, party floor, or pool.

We're constantly working with the hotel to accommodate guests that have specific needs, have lots of luggage and "stuff" (for you artists), or just need that room to have a connecting door so you can keep an eye on the kids. Let us know if we can, and we'll be happy to help!

Smokers, please note that the Marriott corporation has established a policy that all of their facilities are now 100% non-smoking, including all of their sleeping rooms. Smoking is permitted only in certain outdoor areas.

Lastly, if you're interested in having a party at BayCon, please let our Party Maven, David "Dog" Lucey, know. His email is party at baycon dot org. He can help you with a room, ice, doorstops, party information, and where to buy supplies. Of course, if you want to have an advertised or open door party, you'd have to talk to him anyway... He's extraordinarily helpful and fun to work with. Have fun!

Room Rates

The Room Rate for a Standard Room is: $99 per night.

The Room Rate for a One Bedroom Suite: $109 per night. There are many more suites than were available at our old hotel.

(Double Queens or a Single King, both with pull out sofa.)

Rollaways are $10 per night.

Check out the hotel's web page: San Mateo Marriott or click here to make a reservation.

Reservations

The best policy is to confirm everything about your reservation a week before you check in. (That's seven full days). Check your credit card number, the dates of your stay (including early/late check in/out), and room rate. If there are problems with your reservation or your room, email hotel at baycon dot org and we will help you resolve the issue. If you have problems after arriving at the hotel, contact Con Ops (Room 1063) and they will relay your issue to us.

For pre-convention issues, emailing hotel at baycon dot org is the best way to contact us. In your email, please include your name and member number, your contact information, and a brief description of the problem.

Checking In

The Marriott does require a deposit of $50 per night per room. The deposit WILL be required for rooms with incidentals turned off. The hotel may take checks to cover the deposit at their sole discretion. Putting the deposit on a debit or credit card may restrict the availability of your funds. For questions about the deposit policy, please contact the hotel directly.

As a consequence of the recent remodeling, many of the suites no longer have mini-fridges. If you have a medical need for in-room refrigeration, please contact the hotel in advance, even if you have already made a reservation, and let them know you will require a fridge.

Problems

Don't waste your time arguing with the hotel. That's what the BayCon Hotel Staff is here for. Let us handle your problem while you get on with the process of enjoying BayCon's 25th Anniversary. If you have problems with the hotel or members of the hotel staff, your best response is to politely request their name (or read their nametag), thank them for their assistance, and proceed to Con Ops in Room 1063. At ConOps, fill out a request form with your name and member number, your contact information, the problem (along with name of hotel employee), and what you feel would reasonably resolve the issue. The BayCon Hotel Division will fix the problem remotely or meet with you personally to resolve the issue.

For pre-convention issues, emailing hotel at baycon dot org is the best way to contact us. Please include the information listed above in your email.

Smoking

The San Mateo Marriott is a non-smoking hotel. Smoking will be restricted to the Gazebo Courtyard, the 2nd Floor Balcony (facing 101) and the area in front of the hotel to the right of the main entrance. Smoking is also permitted in other outside areas that are at least 20 feet from any opening to the venue, including windows, doors, and air intake ducts.

Pets

Sadly, the Marriott does not allow pets. NO PETS. Again, NO PETS. AT ALL. Service animals of any variety with proper jackets (and backup documentation in case of problems) are always welcome.

Alcohol

Alcohol is to be sold by the hotel only. If you have a party, and wish to allow your guests to consume alcohol in your room, you are responsible for ensuring every single person drinking is over the age of 21. Drinks must be consumed inside. Incidents of underage drinking and distribution of alcohol to minors will be handled by the San Mateo Police Department. Offending individuals may have their memberships revoked.

Free Parking

Marriott will not be charging for parking during BayCon. That's right: BayCon 25 comes with FREE PARKING! (If you're desperate to shed excess cash without the clutter that comes with Dealers' Room purchases, the paid valet parking service will still be running.) We are finalizing the paperwork on the overflow parking lots, so check back for more details on additional parking areas.

Allergies

The standard bedding at the San Mateo Marriott does contain down/feathers. This can be replaced with hypoallergenic foam upon request. Contact the front desk to make arrangements. The food outlets can provide complete ingredient menus on request, as well as large-print or Braille menus.

Internet Access

Registered guests may use their room number and other information supplied by the hotel to access free wireless Internet service. Don't steal what is free. Be safe and be sane with the number of machines you provide NAT addressing to. If you abuse it, you lose it when the network goes down.

Party!

If you're planning on throwing a public party this year, please contact the BayCon Party Maven at party at baycon dot org and he'll help you sort out the details. For more information, please see the BayCon party webpage.
