The BayCon 2007 Charity
Our charity this year is the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Association (PCOSA). Started in 1995 by several women who suffer from PCOS, PCOSA exists to provide comprehensive information, support, and advocacy for women and girls with the condition known as polycystic ovary syndrome.
We will have our usual Charity Casino and Charity Auction, and we encourage everyone to donate to this good cause.
What PCOS Is and Isn't
- Is also known as Stein-Leventhal Syndrome or Polycystic Ovary Disease (PCOD).
- Affects an estimated 6-10% all women and most don't even know they have it.
- Is treatable, but not curable, by medications, changes in diet and exercise.
- Is one of the leading causes of infertility in women.
- Has been identified for 75 years and doctors still aren't sure what causes it.
- Affects far more than just reproduction.
- PCOS is NOT just a cosmetic problem.
It is my personal belief that PCOS affects far more women than referenced above. I look around Fandom and, based on my personal experience of living with it, I can easily see the likelihood that it is already affecting a large number of the women in our community.
